‘Rule’-ing the roost

Thanks to everyone who came to the More Rules of Poetry day yesterday at Winchester Discovery Centre – I’ve enjoyed all the day courses at the DC, but this one seemed particularly good. You were all so enthusiastic, and everyone produced something to be proud of and keep working on.  Well done particularly to the people new to writing, who both drafted good work: Kate bringing a hot evening in Qatar into Winchester winter, and Mike summoning his grandfather into our presence. Meanwhile Angela said she knew little about form but showed herself to be a natural, while Steve and Susan both made excellent use of a new form (ghazal or cinq-cinquaine) to add focus to ideas they’d been working on for a while. I’ll hope to see the book-length idea that Sonja started about the stresses of coping with dementia in the family.

For me it was also a great pleasure to get back into teaching a full day, and now I’m looking forward to the next ones: see you in Gosport for Love Poetry on Saturday!
