December Poetry events – Winchester and Southampton

Tis the season to get out and share a love of poetry and spoken word – at least it is at the moment in Winchester and Southampton, where there are several high-quality events coming up before Christmas. Here they are, and I hope that you’ll come and share the seasonal spirit:

Poetry Platform at the Railway Inn, Winchester

Wednesday 7th December (and first Weds  of every month): 8:30 till late

A wide-ranging night of poetry and the occasional flash fiction, with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Apples and Snakes 451 at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton

Monday 12th December: 7:30 pm

Apples and Snakes is the UK’s foremost performance poetry organisation, and 451 is their flagship night in Southampton. Open mic as well as professional performers.

Hampshire Writers’ Society presents poets Peter Dixon, Tom Masters, and Mark Rutter

Tuesday 13th December: 7:30 pm

The Hampshire Writers’ Society is a new venture but already going strong with a large membership. This will be their first meeting with a focus on poetry.

See http://www.writersconference.co.uk/HWS/meetings.htm and http://www.writersconference.co.uk/HWS/

Poetry at the Bridge Patisserie, Winchester

Tuesday 20th December:, 6-9pm

The latest in the popular tearoom poetry series (which also meets at the Forte tearooms), and this time it’s a charity benefit as well. Turn up in good time if you want to read because it’s usually busy. You can enjoy the best patisserie in Winchester while you listen!

And finally, a mention for my writing group, the Hyde Writers, which meets on 1st and 3rd Mondays at the Hyde Tavern, Hyde St, Winchester (8-10 pm). We’re an intensive feedback group dedicated to helping each other write better work; if you’re looking for that kind of feedback on your writing, then come along and see what we’re like. Email me if you’re thinking of coming just to make sure we haven’t done anything wildly creative with the date!
