Next poetry day at Winchester Discovery Centre

Booking is open now for my next poetry workshop at Winchester Discovery Centre. It’s on Saturday 17th March (from 10 to 4, £25), and the theme is Poetry From Images.

When I was doing my 20:20 Project, I found that images were easily the most productive external prompts I could use; and one such image produced probably the best poem in the whole month. I know I’m not on my own with this: there are countless great poems that have their origins in images on one kind or another, from Keats’ Grecian Urn to Philip Gross’s I Spy Pinhole Eye. Something about visual art can bring out the best in many of us.

This day at the DC is about methods for doing just that.  I’ll have different kinds of image there for you to use, and there’s also a Matisse exhibition on in the Gallery;  or you can bring your own images to work with. I’ll be aiming to give you several different ways of approaching them, and different ways of ‘framing’ the resulting poems as well.

(If you came to my workshop at Petersfield WriteAngle in the summer, please note that I’ll be covering very similar material, but with different images. You’re more than welcome to come again of course.)

Booking is through Winchester Discovery Centre; places are limited so don’t leave it late!
