Flame Fever!

Tomorrow (11th July) is Winchester’s big Olympic day: the torch is coming to town.

We’re no strangers to flaming torches here. On Bonfire Night we wave thousands of them and generally do our best to burn down the High Street:

As this time there’s only one torch and plenty of us to tackle any accidents, I reckon the old place will be safe.

For me there will be an added interest, because the choir from Hyde900 will sing a specially-written poem of mine, set to original music by Henrietta Wentworth-Stanley. This is the first time that my poetry has been set to music, let alone performed in public, so I’m looking forward to the experience. Hoping that the rain doesn’t put out the flame, nor the enthusiasm of the singers! Whatever happens, as I tried to say in the poem, it will be a unique day and something to remember.
